Geelong Disability Services Community Care
Social, psychological and medical research has now demonstrated conclusively that there is a direct correlation between the degree to which a person feels connected to others and their physical and mental health.
In other words, we are built for social contact. There are serious—life-threatening—consequences when we don’t get enough. We can’t stay on track mentally. And we are compromised physically. Social skills are crucial for your health which is why getting out and mixing with others even if it just with one other human being is so very important and why it is a part of your plan.
Just simply having someone to talk to and share ideas with increases our feelings of not being alone and being cared about.
If you’re ready to get out of the house, keen to try a new activity or go out into the community, we have many options available to you. You can choose to do more of the things you already enjoy or to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.
